O-rings, U-rings, Gaskets, and Seals
In air compressors and hydraulic systems, O-rings and U-rings are commonly used to seal the pistons and valves, which help to compress the air or oil and maintain pressure within the compressor. They are also used to seal the connections between hoses, pipes, valves, and fittings.
Due to the sometimes extremely high pressures encountered in these systems, O-rings and U-rings used for hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders must be able to withstand high pressures without extruding, deforming, or failing. They must also be able to withstand the high temperatures generated by the compressor without melting, and should have low friction to prevent wear and tear on the seal in moving parts.
Gaskets and seals used for hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders should be able to resist compression set, which is the permanent deformation of the seal after prolonged compression. As they are frequently exposed to various chemicals, such as compressor oil and other lubricants, they should be able to withstand exposure to these materials without degrading or deteriorating.
